A Literary Portrait Session with Annie at The Bookhouse Hotel
Nestled in the heart of West Chester, Pennsylvania, The Bookhouse Hotel at Faunbrook stands as a testament to timeless elegance and literary charm. Originally built in the 1860s, this historic property was once the residence of the Darlington family, renowned for their legendary Fourth of July celebrations. Over the decades, it has been thoughtfully transformed into a boutique bed and breakfast, inviting guests to immerse themselves in its rich history and serene ambiance.
Recently, I had the pleasure of conducting a portrait session with Annie, a fellow bibliophile, within this enchanting setting. Annie's passion for literature harmoniously aligned with the hotel's aesthetic, allowing us to capture images that reflect both her personality and the unique character of The Bookhouse.
You might remember Annie from last year’s book tour through Philadelphia. We will be making this an annual literary session.
Exploring The Bookhouse Hotel's Enchanting Spaces
We first ventured the hotel's common areas, each meticulously designed to offer a blend of historical charm and modern comfort. The library, with its extensive collection of books and cozy reading nooks, also boasted a chess table, and a hidden door. This led to a sunlit parlor, adorned with vintage furnishings, a photobooth and large windows overlooking the gardens.
A Fusion of History and Modern Comfort
The Bookhouse Hotel seamlessly blends historical charm with contemporary amenities. The building's transformation from a cherished family home into a boutique hotel has preserved its literary essence while introducing modern comforts. Guests can can book a bedroom, each with a different theme. We shot in the Daisy’s Room (inspired by the Great Gatsby), Alice’s Suite (from Alice in Wonderland), Burnett’s Studio (think Secret Garden), and the Dreamer’s Quarters (inspired by Midsummer Night’s Dream). There were three others as well, including the Darlington Suite, Jane’s Room ( Austen), and Rose’s Room (Oliver Twist). Every room was so very cool to explore and I loved finding cute tiny details like a fairy door in the Burnett’s Studio as well as the book of Shakespeare’s finest insults in the Dreamer’s Quarters.
A Haven for Bibliophiles and Travelers Alike
The Bookhouse Hotel stands as a testament to the enduring allure of literature and the comfort of a well-curated space. Whether you're a book enthusiast seeking a quiet retreat or a traveler looking for a unique lodging experience, The Bookhouse Hotel offers an inviting atmosphere that feels like a home away from home.
Our portrait session with Annie not only captured our mutual love for books but also showcased the hotel's dedication to creating a space where stories come alive, and guests can immerse themselves in a world of literary enchantment.
